RB Leipzig match reaction

Julian Nagelsmann: Leipzig deserved to get the point. I was really satisfied with the way we played in the first few minutes. However, we didn’t make the most of our chances and couldn’t take the early lead. There were two clear-cut chances in the first five minutes. We controlled the game well up until the water break. We made too many mistakes in the run up to half time and we didn’t close down their players enough. We were a bit better in the second half. In the end, we threw away too many chances. It was a good match from a neutral perspective, but not as a manager.

Ralph Hasenhüttl: We are very happy about winning the point late on. In my opinion we deserved it. We had a lot of shots on goal and we played well. At the beginning we were a bit naïve in defence; we’ve got to be a bit more aggressive there. However, we got used to this level of football quickly. We were bold and we looked to create chances. Baumann denied us a lot of those. We didn’t always deal with Hoffenheim on the counterattack well. The match was played at a very high tempo in spite of the heat.

Sebastian Rudy: We ought to have seen the win over the line today. We have to make more of our possession, control the game and keep the ball in the opposition’s half. Overall it was a very open game with a lot of chances for both teams.

Mark Uth: The result is very frustrating. We took the 2-1 lead late on and we felt on top of the world. Then they scored the equaliser. Leipzig did well in this situation, however, we defended too deeply.

Sandro Wagner: It was a difficult game for both sides. A draw is a fair result. We started the match well but after 20-25 minutes we started to lose control. Up until half time, it was a really difficult game. Both teams could have scored more goals. I’m happy with the draw.

Timo Werner: At the end of the day, we are quite lucky to come home with a point. But I think you can already say that was testament to how the team will play; we didn’t give up, we fought hard and we wanted to get back into the game.
