Ochs and Gimber bag World Cup tickets

Germany U19s have achieved their minimum goal at the European Championship on home soil following a dramatic match against the Netherlands. The World Cup play-off ended 3-3 after extra time but Germany, managed by former TSG coach Guido Streichsbier, eventually triumphed 5-4 on penalties to qualify for the 2017 U20 World Cup in South Korea. Hoffenheim youngsters Benedikt Gimber (currently on loan at SV Sandhausen) and Philipp Ochs both played the full 120 minutes for their country. Ochs scored the opening goal of the game and also converted his penalty with extreme confidence. Gimber also showed his nerve from the spot to score his penalty.

"We dominated the game and were the better side," said Streichsbier, who has already turned his attention to the World Cup. "The boys will play in a great tournament next year and will be looking to win it," said the U19 coach, who specifically praised the performance of Ochs.

Captain Gimber also appeared releieved after the narrow victory. "It was a hard-fought match but we managed a great comeback. The fact that we have come back after the opening two defeats shows what great character the team has."
