Frankfurt match reaction

Here's what the managers and players had to say after the game.

Julian Nagelsmann: Frankfurt had the better of the game in the first half hour, but we still had chances to take the lead. We wanted to attack much earlier, but Frankfurt were well organised. We couldn’t carry out our game plan. After 30 minutes we got into the game a bit more, then after the break we were the better side. Frankfurt played a lot of long balls. That’s always dangerous, but we defended against them well and didn’t give them much of a chance to score. We weren’t two goals better than the opposition today, but obviously we are very happy about the win.

Niko Kovac: I have to congratulate TSG on the win, even though that’s not so easy for me to do. My team performed well and we had chances to take the lead in the first half. The game got more and more difficult after the half-time break and we ended up walking into a counterattack trap - that can happen when you’re down at the bottom of the table. Whether it was a foul on Amiri? I’ll refrain from judgment. Despite the defeat I have to complement the team on their efforts: they gave everything for 90 minutes, but in football it’s the results that count.

Nadiem Amiri: I must have been on the pitch for about 77 seconds when I scored; it certainly happened quickly. It was either a stroke of luck or a stroke of genius from Julian Nagelsmann that both substitutes scored the goals. It was a fantastic day for us in our fight for survival. The boost a win against our direct competitors gives us is almost as valuable as the three points themselves. We need to keep collecting points, in every game. It’s still all to play for.

Jeremy Toljan: That was a really important win. If you look at the results for the teams around us it was almost an essential win. But this has definitely not decided anything. There are still a lot of games to go. Nadiem did well to score the first goal, it was all about desire. He wanted to change the game.

Alexander Rosen: The atmosphere in the changing room was quite reserved. We all know that the first-half performance wasn’t our best. But we leave the pitch with three points - obviously we’ll take that. But it was no cup final. We’re not safe yet, but we’re on the right track and our record under Julian Nagelsmann is impressive. 17 points from nine games - that's strong.
