Augsburg match reaction

All the reaction from the people involved after TSG’s 2-1 home win over FC Augsburg.

Julian Nagelsmann: At half time, we spoke about putting more pressure on our opponents in their half. It worked well, as we played most of the second half in their half of the pitch and we barely let them get in behind us. It was better than before the break. We didn’t have many clear chances but we used the ones we did have. That’s why we won the match. I am happy and have to pay the team a big compliment for everything they have done since the end of the Dortmund game.

Markus Weinzierl: We played well today. We’ve noticed that we’ve not been at our freshest in the past few weeks; we’ve also had a few injuries. However, that isn’t an excuse. The best thing about the first half was the end of it, when we were given the penalty. We had a lot of plans for the second half, we wanted more possession and to counter better, but we didn’t succeed. Furthermore, as we were up against a good opponent, who controlled the middle of the pitch, we weren’t able to make use of our few chances to counter. It’s a bitter defeat.

Kevin Volland: This second home win in a row will do us good. We are on the right track and won’t let up. In the games before I had chances as well and now one has finally gone in. It’s a fact, that it’s important that as a striker I score goals . This game was fun. We created a lot of chances as a team and all gave 100 percent – that is the most important thing.

Mark Uth: The first half wasn’t good and we weren’t happy, because towards the end we got pushed back too much. We wanted to defend high-up the pitch and play – that is our philosophy. That was something we did better after the restart. We had chances and took one of them to give ourselves the 2-1 win. We are extremely happy. We deserved the victory.

Fabian Schär: After a win, the team is obviously in good spirits, but we need more wins to reach our target. We can be happy but we already have another game coming up against Stuttgart on Saturday. In my opinion the penalty wasn’t a handball – Niki can’t just dissolve into thin air. The referee made the decision. That’s football though. In the end we came away with all three points today.

Alexander Rosen: We started well and must be happy with the steps we’ve made in a short time. After the goal we sat back and were too passive. Then there was the passage of play with the penalty. Afterwards the lads almost crossed a line, they were extremely annoyed. The coach didn’t make it a topic of discussion in the changing room. The alterations were the only topic – we wanted to play higher and attack, so that we could put more pressure on them and get a goal. In the end we stumbled but that doesn’t matter now.
