Dortmund match reaction

We got the thoughts of the two managers after TSG’s 1-1 draw with BVB on Wednesday evening.

Markus Gisdol: We knew that Dortmund would come here full of confidence. We wanted to remain compact and look for our chances on the counter. The longer the first half went on, the better we got into the game. Dortmund didn’t have any chances and then we took the lead. The start of the second half was possibly the best football we’ve played this year. Then came the offside decision. That would have been 2-0 and instead I get sent to the stands. I cannot accept that. The team needed a lot of coaching today. We had a great chance through Ermin, but Dortmund had some opportunities too. 1-1 is a fair enough result, but the situation that saw me dismissed won’t be settled anytime soon.

Thomas Tuchel: We started well and were dominant in the first 20 minutes. We kept trying to get in between the lines. We weren’t clinical enough though, and that goes for in the challenges as well. We couldn’t stop their counterattacks and weren’t dangerous enough in the final third. It was a long way back after their goal and we had a bit of luck with Vargas’ shot against the post. However, we put in a top performance after our equaliser and played at a very high tempo. It was tough to defend against them right until the end – Vargas and Volland played very well. We can live with the point and will learn from the game.
