1860 München match reaction

Here’s what the manager and players had to say following TSG’s DFB Cup elimination at the hands of TSV 1860 München.

Markus Gisdol: It just didn’t go our way today, we couldn’t find out rhythm. We weren’t purposeful enough and gave our opponents too much space to get organised. Because of that, and because we were so sluggish, we were unable to create any real chances on goal. Then when you go behind it becomes difficult to fight back into the game. It was clearly not enough from us, especially with our penetration. I’m not looking for any excuses, it simply wasn’t good enough from us today. 1860 fully deserved their win.

Thorsten Fröhling: I’m very happy today. We wanted to take advantage of the fact that we already have our match rhythm. We had the fans on our side very quickly. We have grown from game to game so far. Today we showed our quality for long spells of the game.

Niklas Süle: I had the feeling that we weren’t really in the game. We were already lacking freshness in the first half. I don’t know why that is. We definitely wanted to win, but we didn’t put our plan into practice on the field. Nothing went the way we had planned, so I am very disappointed.

Kevin Kurányi: I wanted to help the team, but I obviously have a lot of catching up to do before I am fully fit. Things went well for half an hour. We need to set up better against Leverkusen and be more aggressive. It was obviously great to be playing in Germany again, but without the win it means nothing.

Pirmin Schwegler: We need to analyse the defeat and work hard. We have a lot of work ahead of us – that was clear to see today. I hope we can fix a few things against Leverkusen. We still need to find our rhythm as it hasn’t happened yet, the way we had hoped. We didn’t do a good job of pressing. 1860 were one step ahead of us, which ultimately decided the game. We were too late to every ball and didn’t win enough of our challenges.
