Assist for Firmino, Amiri plays the full 90

Nadiem Amiri and Roberto Firmino were in action for their respective national sides yesterday. Amiri played in the Germany U19s' 1-1 draw against Slovakia, while Firmino was a part of Brazil's 3-1 win over France.

Amiri didn't have to travel far for the first of three upcoming internationals. The Germany U19s' qualifier against Slovakia took place in Mannheim on Thursday. A place in the upcoming European Championship, which takes place in Greece in July, is up for grabs.

Marcus Sorg included Nadiem Amiri in the starting line-up; the youngster played on the left side of midfield and was involved for the full 90 minutes. Germany put in a good performance, which will have impressed the head coach, and they took the lead in the 19th minute through Ingolstadt's Max Christiansen, but were unable to add a second.

They were left to rue that as the visitors levelled in injury time. “We were unlucky to concede a late equaliser. Towards the end of the game we didn't keep control of the ball enough or make accurate passes. We were missing a bit of calmness and authority,” said Marcus Sorg after the game. Germany face Ireland in Sandhausen on Saturday, before taking on the Czech Republic in Walldorf on Tuesday.

Firmino sets up Oscar

Two of the best international sides on the planet met in the Stade de France in Paris last night: France and Brazil. Carlos Dunga, Brazil's head coach, put Roberto Firmino in his starting XI. The attacker didn't disappoint and played his part in the Selecao's equaliser.

The TSG star had a powerful long range shot put behind for a corner by France's goalkeeper in the first half. By this point, the hosts were in front thanks to a header from Varane, but it was the South American side who were dominating the game and they deserved their 41st-minute equaliser, with Oscar slotting home after great work Firmino. Hoffenheim's number 10 showed some quick feet on the edge of the area to set up the Chelsea star, who poked the ball past the France keeper.

Firmino was also indirectly involved in Neymar's goal, which saw Brazil take the lead. His clever run created space for Willian, whose clever through ball allowed Neymar to fire home. France had chances to equalise before Wolfsburg's Luiz Gustavo made it 3-1 with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Firmino was brought off in the 88th minute after another successful evening with the Selecao – an impressive performance, an assist and a victory.
