Friendly defeat
to second-division
VfR Aalen

TSG lost to VfR Aalen in a friendly held at Hoffenheim's training ground in Zuzenhausen on Thursday afternoon. The visitors won 3-1, with their goals coming from Phil Ofosu-Ayeh and Fabian Weiß (2), while Anthony Modeste tucked away a penalty for TSG.

The international break offers the chance for players who haven't had regular game time in the Bundesliga or German Cup so far to make an impression on the coaching staff. In addition, the coaches are able to cast an eye over the youth team, who join in with first-team training.

The game was competitive and even. However, the second-division side took their chances after the break. Having rarely troubled Jens Grahl, Aalen made the breakthrough midway through the second half and went on to clinch victory. Fabian Weis fired in a quick brace after Phil Ofosu-Ayeh had put the visitors in front after 67 minutes. TSG grabbed a consolation goal in injury time through an Anthony Modeste penalty.
