Elyounoussi wins with Norway - Defeat for Bosnia

TSG attacker Tarik Elyounoussi helped the Norway national team to victory over Azerbaijan in Group H of the European Championship qualifying stage. It was an important 1-0 victory for the Scandinavians. Ermin Bicakcic was an unused sub in Bosnia's defeat away to Israel.

Elyounoussi was in the starting line-up for the game. The first half was lacking in chances but Gladbach's Havard Nordtveit gave Norway the lead in the 25th minute after a corner.

Norway controlled the game after the break. Azerbaijan didn't have a shot on target over the course of the 90 minutes. Elyounoussi, who has scored four times for TSG in the Bundesliga this season, was replaced in injury time in order to run the clock down and ensure that the 1-0 scoreline wasn't threatened.

Norway remain in third place in Group H after the victory with nine points. Italy and Croatia, who played out a 1-1 draw in Milan, occupy the top two spots with 10 points each. Norway are in touching distance of top spot.

Bicakcic isn't selected for Bosnia

Bosnia-Herzegovina were also in European Championship qualifying action last night. Ermin Bicakcic wasn't selected for the 3-0 defeat against Israel and remained an unused substitute. His team were 2-0 down at the break.

Things became tougher for Bosnia in the 48th minute when Toni Sunjic was given his marching orders; Visca and Prcic had come on at half time in the hope of bringing fresh impetus to the game, but the red-card to Sunjic limited their impact. The 2014 World Cup participants are currently struggling in Group B, having only picked up two points from four games. But with six games to go, qualification is still possible.
