TSG training camp day two – “Everyone can feel it getting more intensive”

The training regime that Markus Gisdol and his staff have put together for the TSG players is certainly a demanding one. Day two of training ran from 8 o'clock in the morning until 8 in the evening. The timeframe for recovery is tight.

The players took to the football pitch at 10am. “We'll be sure to spend plenty of time with the ball,” promised Gisdol the day the team arrived and there was a variety of activities for the players on day two of the training camp. The day started with the players working through different exercises such as controlling and running with the ball, slalom dribbling, as well as passing and heading the ball. The rest of the session involved the players standing in a circle and keeping the ball moving within a quadrant while another chased it down, followed by snap-shot practice with two nets.

“We have evaluated the fitness tests and are very pleased with our players' current condition,” explained fitness coach Nicklas Dietrich. “Now we want to increase every individual's performance level because then we can form our playing method more effectively.”

In the afternoon, the focus was put on strength and stabilisation. The players were split into three groups and each put through their paces. Jannik Vestergaard said: “We have completed our own individual training programmes over the last few weeks before we rejoined the squad, but obviously we're not yet at the fitness levels required for the Bundesliga. The sessions here are strenuous and very demanding. Everyone can feel it getting more intensive.”

Day two's training finished with a running and biking tour in the early evening. The coaches found a challenging and varied route around the lake and the surrounding hilly landscape for the players.
