TSG training camp day three – Everyone's a winner

The real highlight from day three of TSG's training camp in Westerburg was a team-building exercise in the afternoon. Markus Gisdol and his coaching staff had their players split into teams with each building their own raft. After a good two hours including a showdown between the teams, it was still unclear who the winner was. The squabbles went on long into the evening.

The day began with some work with the ball at the hotel's own pitch. The outfield players were split into two groups and did some warm-up exercises with the ball under the coaching of assistant managers Frank Kaspari and Frank Fröhling. Afterwards, the players formed four groups of four and played a mini-tournament. Because of the short distance between the goals, the intensity was much higher and shots were being taken from left, right and centre. The two teams that weren't playing did some light jogging to ensure that everyone kept moving.

A break was taken for the players to take on plenty of fluids with the rising temperatures becoming uncomfortable. The tournament winner was the team of Sven Schipplock, Andreas Ludwig, Niklas Süle and Patrick Schorr and their reward was an ice cream after lunch.

Raft ahoy!

After an hour of fitness training, the players gathered together for the day's main event. The players were a little taken aback when they saw the individual parts of the rafts needed putting together: six small logs, three planks of wood, seven empty barrels and some rope and luggage ties. It didn't take long before the more experienced players in each group took the lead. Andi Beck and Jannik Vestergaard were those players in one group, with Igor de Camargo and Sven Schipplock leading the other.

It took around an hour before the rafts were ready to enter the water. The most important factor wasn't the time taken, but rather whether they worked. Both rafts remained afloat though and so a race was needed to decide the winner, but that too only ended up in long discussions. On the home stretch, David Abraham did a victory leap into the cold water and Andi Beck did his winner's pose. But the second group also got ready for a winner's photo after returning to shore. Jannik Vestergaard tried to explain the situation: “We got to the jetty first so we won!” Sven Schipplock had a different opinion: “The winner was the first one to shore!” The organisers called it a draw but neither team wanted that and both felt like losers. achtzehn99.de has a better solution: You're all winners!
