Johnson reaches top spot with US team

In another World Cup qualifier, this time against Panama, the USA team and Hoffenheim midfielder Fabian Johnson won 2-0 on Tuesday evening. Johnson played on the left wing in the game in Seattle and assisted Jozy Altidore for the opening goal.

The win saw Jürgen Klinsmann's USA team leap past Costa Rica into the top spot in their qualification group with ten points from five games. For Johnson, who was replaced shortly before the end by Davis, it proved to be the third assist of his international career.

“We are pleased with the performance of our side and we had the game under complete control. Our focus now turns to the next game. We want to win all of our home games so as to make sure we reach our goal,” said Klinsmann, looking ahead to the next World Cup qualifier. On Tuesday, the USA team travel to Sandy, Utah to face Honduras.
