Mainz 05 match reaction

Here is the match reaction after the 0-0 draw against 1. FSV Mainz 05:

Marco Kurz: In the first half, especially in the first 30 minutes, we failed to capitalise on our chances. During that time we were the more dominant side but we couldn't find the pivotal touch that we had against Fürth. In the second half, Mainz were closer to getting the win and that's why we'll take the point. We kept a clean sheet against a good side with a strong attack. That is something positive we can take from the game. We aren't looking at Augsburg. We are focusing purely on ourselves.

Andreas Beck: It was a disjointed match with a lot of challenges. A draw was a fair result. Neither side had a lot of chances and Mainz made it difficult for us. We were too erratic in attack but what's most pleasing is the fact we've kept two consecutive clean sheets and that's a big positive.

Tobias Weis: We wanted to up the ante today and add to the performance from the Fürth game. Sadly, we didn't manage that. We had two or three good chances but we just couldn't find enough space to finish them of. We have eight games to go and must start building some form. Everything is still to play for.

Eugen Polanski: We were a little lucky at times but there was definitely more there for us today. We just lacked a goal. We will continue to work hard to get away from the bottom of the table. There were just tactical instructions on the piece of paper that I brought onto the pitch with me.

Kevin Volland: It's annoying that we couldn't take the three points today but I still think we played well. We all wanted to win today but just couldn't fashion out a chance. We were strong defensively, countered well and tried to create things in front of goal but it just wasn't enough today. In the second half we had hoped for a lot more but we needed to put more effort in. We had to deal with a difficult Mainz side but I am convinced that we can do it.

Stephan Schröck: We didn't really have a grip on the game in the last half an hour. We missed the chance to take the lead in the first half. There's no doubt we believe in our ability.

Andreas Müller: It's not the result we were hoping for but at the end of it all, we've got to be happy with a point because those are the types of games that you often lose. The good thing is that we look strong at the back. We are lacking that clinical touch in attack and that's something we've got to rectify.

Thomas Tuchel: Hoffenheim started really well and spread the play well, which made it difficult for us. We weren't as compact or as aggressive as we normally are. Towards the end of the first half we were better and in the second we were dominant, creating some good chances. My team put in a really good performance. A victory was there for us today but I am also pretty happy with the point.
