Freiburg match reaction

Here is the match reaction after the 2-1 victory against SC Freiburg.

Marco Kurz: “I think that we made the team aware of how nervous they were at the start when we went behind. I was pleased with the equaliser because it showed we had a real strength of character. I thought we battled our way into the game and ended up deservedly beating a good Freiburg side. I am delighted that the team were rewarded for their fight.”

Christian Streich: “We started well and played attractively, scoring early. Then we invited Hoffenheim to shoot at goal. If you make the type of mistakes that we made today, then it's obvious that you are going to lose the game. Hoffenheim were deserved winners today.”

Kevin Volland: “Of course I'm pleased to have scored today. It must be said though, that the team as a whole played brilliantly. We battled hard for each other and the fans were a big part of that. We were compact and counter attacked well. To concede so early was difficult but we stuck to our game and weren't discouraged.”

Andi Beck: “It's a big relief for all involved. Aside from the opening twenty minutes, it was a good performance. We lost a few balls but made up for it by playing well without the ball. The most important thing was that we turned the game around. This type of thing happened in the first half of the season too, where we had good passages of play. As a result, we want to enjoy the moment but don't want to read too much into it either. We know this must be the start of something. The next challenge lies ahead for us.”

Eugen Polanski: “I think a great part of the result today came from training this week. The desire increased day by day. In the final session, there was a real drive to get a win against Freiburg. We started badly but then showed great character to fight back.”

Julian Schuster: “We started the game superbly today and even had the chance to make it 2-0. We should have done as well because Hoffenheim were rattled. Instead of that we made unnecessary errors that let the opposition back in the game.”
