TSG can't stop Bayern's winning streak

Hoffenheim made one change ahead of their away game against top of the table Bayern München with Patrick Ochs replacing Kevin Volland on the right wing. Markus Babbel was hoping to keep his side's form going but recognised Bayern München as the most in-form side in the Bundesliga.

Hoffenheim looked comfortable in the early stages and, as they had expected, saw less of the ball as the home side dominated possession. Despite that, neither side could create any concrete chances going forward, with the away team holding firm. In the first real chance of the game though, Bayern took the lead. Thomas Müller passed out wide to Franck Ribery on the left-hand side, who beat Beck before firing an effort through the legs of Casteels. It was tough on Hoffenheim, who had battled hard in the early stages, but the goal signified a change in momentum. The home side started to dominate even more and could have added to their opening goal. Shortly before the half-hour mark, the freshly arrived Shaqiri played it out to Lahm, whose first-time cross found Kroos, but TSG deflected his effort wide. Hoffenheim were finding it hard to get on the ball and when they did, Bayern pressed high up the pitch and won it back almost instantly. Six minutes before the break, Ribery had a great chance to add a second to both his name and the scoreline but he dragged his effort from outside the box wide.

The second half started in the worst possible fashion for Hoffenheim as Bayern found that second goal. Mandzukic crossed from the right-hand side and found an unmarked Kroos in the area. The German international miscontrolled the ball but regained his composure to pass to Ribery who curled his effort past Casteels. Hoffenheim were frustrated and, as they did in the first half, struggled to hold onto the ball. Bayern retained control for most of the second period and, but for a lack of composure, could have made things worse for Hoffenheim. New signing Javi Martinez was guilty of missing two headed opportunities as the game ran its course. Hoffenheim rarely got close enough to test Manuel Neuer and along with a fantastic individual performance from Franck Ribery, could do nothing to stop Bayern's run of league wins from extending to seven in a row.

After the international break, TSG will return to Bundesliga duty on Friday 19th October at 20.30 CET with a home game against the newly promoted SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
