The footballing world unites: Great compassion for the fate of Boris Vukcevic

Since the terrible accident last Friday, Boris Vukcevic's condition has remained almost unchanged, as he lies in a coma in a critical state. The support and compassion that the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim following has shown for the injured player has been remarkable. Not only Bundesliga representatives, but former team-mates have also sent their best wishes. TSG have also received countless, encouraging messages from Germany and abroad.

Sporting director Andreas Müller: “On behalf of Boris Vukcevic and his family, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for the compassion that has been shown. We're certain that every single letter helps him.”

For his team-mates at TSG, the whole incident has been very depressing and the hopeful wait for some good news to come soon is difficult. “We just have to pray and hope that Boris pulls through”, said Marvin Compper after Saturday's game. The visiting Augsburg side donned T-shirts with the words “Get well soon, Boris” during their warm-up, and gave the team one of the shirts with their get-well messages for Boris written on it.

The footballing world has come together again and is united in hope. A lot of Boris' former team-mates and other Bundesliga players have sent their best wishes. Edson Braafheid tweeted from Twente (Netherlands): “You are in my thoughts. I hope and pray that you'll get better with God's help!” Ryan Babel also gave his support and prayed for Boris and his family. David Alaba also asked for his team-mates to pray for Boris, while former Hoffenheim players Tom Starke and Luis Gustavo also sent their best wishes from Munich. Philipp Lahm spoke on behalf on FC Bayern: “Everyone here at the club is hoping that Boris has the strength to recover.”

The list of people could go on and on. From Lukas Podolski to Jerome Boateng, Lewis Holtby, Marco Reus, all the way to Joseph S. Blatter. “My thoughts are with Boris Vukcevic and his family. I hope that he gets well again soon”, expressed the FIFA president.

Meanwhile, Boris Vukcevic's parents have also released their own public statement: “We would like to thank everyone for the unprecedented compassion and support that we have received from all directions in the past few days. They help us to believe that Boris will recover. Our particular thanks go to the doctors that have fought to save our boy's life for the last two days. We also want to thank TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Boris' team-mates who went onto the pitch and battled for him. It's been remarkable to see how sensitively everyone involved, and even the general public, has gone about this difficult matter. Finally our thanks go to the other Bundesliga clubs, the Football Association and the many players who have had Boris in their thoughts and help to give him strength.”
