Lakic set for debut?

Four days and two games lie between 1899 and the chance to write a spectacular chapter in their history. On Saturday, TSG face FC Augsburg in the league, while next week they take on Greuther Fürth in the German Cup quarter final. Yet the focus among manager Holger Stanislawski and his players is not on the upcoming cup tie. “We're not concerned with the cup game yet. First we have to beat Augsburg and give ourselves some breathing space from the teams below us. A victory is all we're thinking about”, said Stani at Thursday's press conference. Kick-off against Augsburg is this Saturday at 3.30 pm in the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena.

Compper and Vukcevic fit

Boris Vukcevic and Marvin Compper will both be available for selection on Saturday, after coming through a full week's training after injury absences. Should Compper come back into the side, Daniel Williams may revert back to his regular position of central midfield. Regarding Vukcevic, Stanislawski was giving no clear signals, but conceded that he may well feature in some capacity. “Boris has made a good impression this week. He's hungry to get back playing again after his injury”, said the manager. Also sat with Stanislawski for the journalists assembled today, and a possible contender for Saturday's matchday squad, was the club's newest signing Srdjan Lakic. The Croatian striker was brought in from VfL Wolfsburg until the end of the season. “My goal is to help the team as quickly as possible. We'll have to see if I can do that on Sunday, but I can't wait to get started in the league for Hoffenheim”, he said. Andreas Ibertsberger, Matthias Jaissle, Sandro Wiser and Stefan Thesker are, however, all unavailable.

Third victory against Augsburg?

FC Augsburg have been active themselves in the transfer window, bringing in Jan Morávek, Ja-Cheol Koo and Matthias Ostrzolek to bolster their squad for the second half of the season. The Bavarian side are fighting for their lives in the Bundesliga and will be a match for any team. Lakic for one is expecting a tough game. “Augsburg are competing to stay in the division, so they will be dangerous. But these are games that we have to win.” Hoffenheim will be boosted by two previous victories against Jos Luhukay's side. In August, 1899 were 2-0 winners in the SGL arena thanks to goals from Ryan Babel and Sejad Salihovic, while they also dispatched Augsburg in the last round of the German Cup. Salihovic and Vedad Ibisevic were the goalscorers that day.

Match Stats

Traditionally, this has been a good fixture for Hoffenheim. As well as two wins already this season, they are unbeaten in their last five against the Bavarians. Augsburg have also struggled on the road this season, winning just once in 10 games and taking just one point from their last five away matches.
