Lakic joins 1899 on loan

Croatian forward Srdjan Lakic has joined 1899 Hoffenheim from VfL Wolfsburg on loan. After passing a medical, the 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season.

The Croat managed ten appearances for Wolfsburg so far this season. He has played a total of 52 games in the Bundesliga, scoring a total of 16 goals, from his previous spell at 1. FC Kaiserslautern. He is due to train with his new teammates at TSG for the first time today.

Sporting Director Ernst Tanner said of the deal, “After the exit of Vedad Ibisevic, we wanted to strengthen the squad. We're happy that we've been able to bring a player of the calibre of Srdjan Lakic to the club.”

Head Coach Holger Stanislawski is also convinced that the striker will have a big impact in Sinsheim. “Srdjan fits very well to the type of player we want to have here, since he's a layer who can help us in the short term. He's a striker with a god eye for goal and is very strong in the air and on the ground. We're convinced that he can fill the gap left by Vedad.”

Lakic himself also expressed his delight at joining the club. “I'm looking forward to the new challenge here, and am itching to get started in my first game for TSG.”
