Compper on the comeback trail

1899 Hoffenheim received a welcome boost ahead of the Bundesliga's resumption this weekend, as defender Marvin Compper returned to ball training following a knee injury.

With the help of Rehab and fitness coach Christof Elser, he was running and training without a ball to get is fitness back. Now the 26-year-old can return to ball work. “We've started his training with a ball again. We're on track to have him back soon, but it will take a little while before he's back to full fitness”, said Elser.

The defender suffered damaged knee ligaments in the club's 2-0 win over Nürnberg in December. “My knee feels okay when I put weight on it and I haven't had a reaction from it”, said a relieved Compper. The challenge which resulted in the injury also earned Compper a red card, and he must serve the last match of his suspension by sitting out this weekend's game against Hannover 96. No return date was given for the Tübingen-born defender, but it is expected he will make his comeback in the very near future.
