Bremen match reaction

Here is the match reaction following the 4-1 defeat to Werder Bremen.

Markus Babbel: “We were full of nerves in the first half. We didn't show what I was hoping for. We were too slow; there were some heavy legs out there. It was different in the second half. We put them under pressure and lost our anxiety. I realise that there is a lot of pressure on me with the defeat. The guys need to turn the tide now.”

Thomas Schaaf: “Obviously we're happy after a game like that. Especially in the first half when we showed determination and assertiveness. We stepped off a little in the second half and got into trouble, but luckily we got back into the game. The team put in a convincing display. It's the reaction we needed after Wednesday's match.”

Andreas Beck: “It was a mirror image of our last home game. We went behind and had a bad first half. Then, in the second half, we show what we can do and get stronger. Obviously that's tiring and then we concede the next goal. We all have to ask ourselves why we're not performing.”

Daniel Williams: “It's a difficult situation but now we all have to pull together. It's us, the players on the pitch, that are responsible. It's our fault, not the manager's.”

Sejad Salihovic: “We were lucky not to be further behind at the break. I can't understand either why we didn't play like we did in the second half from the start. We deserved to lose today. The side has to get out of this by themselves. We've been in this situation for too long. We have to fight our way out as a team, keep our heads high and take that mentality onto the pitch with us.”

Andreas Müller: “When you look at the game, it wasn't what we intended to do. It was like the previous games where we've been behind early and slept through the start. The team was unsettled today. We started the second half well and even had the chance to equalise, but only because Bremen made it possible for us to do so. Overall Bremen hardly let a chance go to waste and so deserved to win. Nevertheless, I'm still convinced that we can show our better side. The team have to produce it quickly.”

Sebastian Prödl: “All things considered, we can be happy. Sometimes we're lacking consistency but we were rewarded today. We called on everything we had, and of course it's always nice to score a goal.”

Marko Arnautovic: “Obviously I wasn't completely fit today, but thank God it was enough. I have to thank the manager for playing me, but I think I repaid him.”
