U21: Sigurdsson suffers early exit with Iceland

Gylfi Sigurdsson went into the final match of the U21 European Championship group stage knowing it was going to take a slight miracle for his Iceland side to make it through to the knockout stages. Despite coming so close, they unfortunately fell short and had to face an early exit from the tournament.

After two defeats against Belarus (0-2) and a blossoming Switzerland team (0-2) meant that their 3-1 win against Scandinavian rivals and tournament hosts Denmark had little relevance. “We were obviously hoping to achieve more than we did. The opening match went completely against us. We never got ourselves into the tournament and found our feet, performance wise, far too late”, explained a disappointed Sigurdsson. The Icelandic sensation who was voted as 1899's Player of the Season 2010/11 will join up with his teammates for pre-season training in Feldkirchen on 6th July.
