Reaction against Hannover 96

1899 Hoffenheim came up short against third placed Hannover 96 as they lost 2-0 inside the AWD-Arena on Saturday. Here's what those involved had to say about the match:

Marco Pezzaiuoli: We conceded two goals from counter attacks and didn't reorganise ourselves well enough when we lost the ball. The period directly after the first goal we were the better team and created the chances to get back into the match. Hannover were, as always, very efficient and didn't need plenty of chances to score. In the second half, though, we needed to be more aggressive going forward, but there wasn't as much flow to our movements. We were lacking any sort of determination, creativity and penetration and it cost us today.

Mirko Slomka: We deserved to win today. The first half was a real tactical battle. When we get our chances on the counter attack, we know we have to use them. With this win behind us we have achieved something extraordinary. We're incredibly proud of reaching the 50-point mark and setting a new club record.

Tom Starke: We didn't play the way we had hoped to. Hannover are the strongest team in the league on the counter attack and you obviously have to guard against it. Unfortunately we couldn't do that today.

Marvin Compper: We're currently experiencing a lot of ups and downs in terms of our form and I can only assume it's got something to do with a lack of match sharpness within the team.

Christian Schulz: It was a tough match. 1899 had more of the game in the opening half an hour, but the goal gave us a huge boost and took a lot of pressure off of our shoulders. Now 96 has the chance to make history.

Didier Ya Konan: I'm really pleased with the win and my own performance. Now anything is possible. It doesn't necessarily have to be the Champions League though, as I would still be happy playing in the Europa League.

Jörg Schmadtke: We've still got some tricky games ahead of us, but today's win was important to solidify our position in the table.
