Reaction against Hamburg

In Saturday's evening kick-off 1899 Hoffenheim and Hamburger SV battled their way to a hard fought and mostly tedious 0-0 stalemate inside the Rhein-Necakr Arena on a night where nothing seemed to go right for the Kraichgau outfit. Here's what those involved had to say about the match:

Marco Pezzaiuoli: We played well as a unit in the first half and kept compact. We played well in possession, but lacked composure up front. We still didn't give a lot away in the second half either and all that was missing was the final touch in front of goal to make the difference. We kept creating chances until the very end, but at the end of the day 0-0 pleases everyone.

Michael Oenning: It was the type of game I expected. It was a confusing affair for us, though. We struggled to link the play in the first half and gave them far too much space. Both teams made basic errors that aren't what you want to see in football. We came into the game more in second half and started to get a grip on the match. We tried to get the ball forward and although we didn't score, it's a big positive for us to keep another clean sheet.

Ernst Tanner: Our counter-attacks just didn't work the way we wanted to today. We even went through phases of dominating the match and our opponents. As I've said before we still need time to perfect our game especially in terms of winning the ball back.

Tom Starke: We'll have to live with a point today. We definitely had the better chances, especially Vedo in the first half and he would normally score those with his eyes closed in training. In the past we've let matches like this slip through our fingers, but that didn't happen today and it's a positive thing for us to still take something from the game.

Ryan Babel: If we'd have had luck on our side I'm convinced we would have scored in the first half. Bringing in David Jarolim gave HSV more stability because afterwards we found it hard to create chances. The link up play between Vedo and me is getting better every match. As long as the team keeps performing well I have no doubt that I will score my first goal for 1899.

Marcel Janssen: We should have been a lot better today. However, given how the match played out I think we've got to be satisfied with a point. Hoffenheim certainly had more possession and therefore more of the match, but we limited them to half chances on the most part.
