Obasi joins Schalke on loan

Hoffenheim forward Chinedu Obasi has agreed to join FC Schalke 04 on loan until the end of the season. The Gelsenkirchen club will have also have first refusal regarding signing him on a permanent deal. Obasi will join up with his new team-mates for a training camp in Qatar on January 4th.

1899 General Manager said of the transfer: "Edu has been an important player for us in the last twelve months. But we have all agree that, after four years with us here at Hoffenheim, now was a good time for him to take the next step in his development.”

The Nigerian international striker signed for Hoffenheim, then in the 2. Bundesliga, from Norwegian outfit Lyn Oslo in the summer of 2007. He has become synonymous with the club's rapid ascent to the top tier, as well as its being crowned Autumn Champions in the 2008-09 season. He made over 100 goals for 1899, scoring 27 goals in the process.

He has been a Nigerian international since 2005 and has earned 21 caps for the Super Eagles.
