Looking back on 2011: Fabian's debut

2011 was another year in which 1899 Hoffenheim made headlines. There were two managerial changes, as well as reshuffles among the club's top officials and executives. On the pitch, the club ended the first half of the current campaign in 9th place in the table. But it was a memorable year for our players as well, who have been telling achtzehn99.de of their highlights. Fabian Johnson speaks here of his first-team debut for TSG.

The first time he donned the colours of 1899 Hoffenheim in a competitive game, a range of emotions overcame Fabian Johnson. “It was amazing that I was able to score my first goal for the club on my competitive debut. I had only just come on as well.”

It's a game that he looks back on with fond memories: a German Cup first-round clash with Germinia Windeck. “It was a tough game. We made hard of work of the game, and needed extra time to win. I think we had expected an easier match.” In the end, TSG made it through 3-1, thanks to Fabian's goal and the cup run is still going: Holger Stanislawski's team have a quarter-final tie at home to Greuther Fürth in February to look forward to.
