Catching up with the captain

It's derby time once again on Matchday 33 as local rivals VfB Stuttgart travel to the Rhein-Neckar Arena to take on an 1899 Hoffenheim side looking to climb further up the table. In the build-up to the big match achtzehn99.de caught up with club captain Andreas Beck, a former Stuttgart player, to get his thoughts on the upcoming encounter:

Andreas, the final derby of the season is fast approaching, but surely the match against VfB Stuttgart is still that bit more special for you personally?

Of course it is. My footballing roots lie in Stuttgart, it's where I first became a professional footballer. They're still four points behind us and that's the way it should stay. We definitely want to finish above VfB this season.

You spent a couple of years playing for VfB between 2006 and 2008. What are your thoughts on their current situation?

Mathematically, they're still not quite there. However, they gave themselves some breathing room with the 3-0 win over Hamburg last weekend and they'll want to take another big step towards safety with a win this weekend. We're no going to make it easy though because we're raring to go and determined to keep the points by building upon our first half performance against Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Is it right that you've had a little bet going with Serdar Tasci since the match earlier this season?

Yes, that's right. Serdar Tasci was of the opinion that they would still be able to catch us up in the second half of the season and naturally I was willing to go against him in the wager. Right now we're still in front and I'll do everything I can in my power to keep it that way.
