Braafheid receives two-match ban

1899 Hoffenheim defender Edson Braafheid received a two-match ban from the German Football Association (DFB) following his red card against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday. Coming on to make his debut, new signing Braafheid was shown a straight red in the second half, five minutes after he came on the pitch, following a petulant altercation Christian Tiffert.

1899 Hoffenheim have decided not to appeal the decision made by the DFB. Braafheid, who had replaced goalscorer Vedad Ibisevic in the 73rd minute, was shown the red card by referee Peter Sippel of Munich in the 79th minute and sent for an early shower. There appeared to be little contact between the two players in what was a hotly contested decision, but it means the Dutch international will be unavailable for Marco Pezzaiuoli until the home match against FSV Mainz 05.
