An interview with Tom Starke

Tom Starke has taken some time out of his busy schedule to be the first 1899 Hoffenheim player to give his opinion on the recent announcement regarding the future of Marco Pezzaiuoli. Exclusive to achtzehn99.de, here is what the experienced goalkeeper had to say on the topic:

Tom, on Tuesday it was announced that Marco Pezzaiuoli's time as head coach at 1899 Hoffenheim was going to be brought to a premature end come the end of the season. How did the squad react to the decision?

Ultimately, the decision didn't come as too big of a surprise. However, our performances of late have done nothing to strengthen his position and the sudden announcement may or may not have had something to do with out poor performance against SC Freiburg on the weekend. We have to partly take the blame and realise where we went wrong, but the decision has left everyone with a sour taste in their mouths.

When a decision like this is made public does it disturb the day-to-day routines at a club or the focus on the next match and the upcoming opponent?

It's up to us as the players to get on with the task at hand. Our next opponents will be waiting for us on Saturday. We've run out of excuses, but the squad remains committed to the club and the fans meaning that the situation with the head coach will be handled with the utmost respect. The season isn't over yet and we're determined to win a few more matches. Therefore our focus is on Saturday, which presents the first opportunity for us to do just that.

What kind of reaction are you expecting to get from the fans inside the Rhein-Neckar-Arena?

We have let the fans down in recent weeks. Therefore it's crucial that we get back to winning ways a get rid of the funk we are in, whilst moving up the table if possible. We've got to make sure that we get back to a place where the fans truly enjoy coming and watching us play at home.
