1899 Hoffenheim snap up Fabian Johnson

1899 Hoffenheim continue to reinforce their squad having secured the services of Fabian Johnson from VfL Wolfsburg ahead of the upcoming season.

The 23-year old full back has put pen to paper on a three-year contract as he makes the move from Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg. Johnson has represented Germany at the U-17, 18, 19, 20 level and in 2009 was part of the European U-21 Championship winning Germany side, some of whom made the step up to the full national side in time for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The full back presents himself as a defensive utility player who can use both feet and operate on both flanks. The Munich born player, who owns an American passport alongside his German citizenship, definitely caught the eye of 1899 manager Ernst Tanner: "Fabian possess a lot of talent and has already proven himself to be a versatile and competent full back in the Bundesliga. By adding him to our squad it gives us more options in the wider areas of the back four. I'm pleased we managed to convince Fabian to take the next step of his career with 1899 Hoffenheim."

The youngster moves to Kraichgau for an undisclosed fee and will wear the number 16 on the back of his shirt. The 23-year old becomes the second signing for the Sinsheim side after Sven Schipplock joined last month.
