1899 Hoffenheim edge past Wormatia Worms

1899 Hoffenheim made it two wins in two matches for their pre-season preparations as they came from a goal behind, courtesy of Roberto Firmino and an own goal, to secure a 2-1 victory of Wormatia Worms.

Roughly 1,700 spectators made their way to the home of SV Gimbsheim, who were celebrating their 100th anniversary, to see Holger Stanislawski's charges take on lower league opposition. However, the opening stages were not what they would have expected as it was 1899 who were on the back foot more often than their opponents because of their reserved approach to the start of the match. Daniel Haas, in goal in place of the regular number 1 Tom Starke, comfortably dealt with what was thrown at him to keep the minnows at bay.

With limited goal scoring chances on offer, Wormatia Worms's Martin Gollash stepped up to break the deadlock after a defensive error by Hoffenheim just before half time. The setback seemed to wake Hoffenheim who responded before the break thanks to Roberto Firmino's equaliser. The Brazilian has been in fine form in pre-season and is certainly making people take notice of his talents.

1899 Hoffenheim's new head coach Holger Stanislawski made several changes during the break, Starke came in for Haas and Florian Ruck replaced Jaissle, while Sven Schipplock, Peniel Mlapa, Andreas Beck, Jannik Vestergaard and Denis Thomalla were all involved throughout the second half. 1899 captain Andreas Beck found himself in the unfamiliar position of right midfield, playing in front of new signing Fabian Johnson. Both sides continued to struggle in front of goal, often wasting the rare opportunities they had. Hoffenheim gradually began to turn the screw against the lower league opposition as Mlapa and Kaiser both squandered chances. Worms were looking to hit 1899 on the counter attack, but unfortunately were on the wrong end of a last minute decider. Kaiser tried to find Thomalla with a ball into the box, but the pass cannoned off an opponents leg and past the stranded goalkeeper with just five minutes remaining in the match. The result sees 1899 Hoffenheim remain unbeaten in their pre-season preparations so far.
