Thoughts on the St. Pauli game

A difficult and hard-fought 90 minutes at the Millerntor are behind the team. The final result was a 1-0 victory for 1899 Hoffenheim, a result that keeps them top of the Bundesliga.

Ralf Rangnick (Head coach 1899 Hoffenheim)

It was a tough game where we didn't perform to our potential in the first half. St Pauli did most of the pressing in the first half, and we weren't impressive with our ball retention. Yet I am satisfied following the second half, where we were able to play better. Such a game usually ends up goalless, but we're naturally delighted to take the points.

Holger Stanislawski (Co-coach FC St. Pauli)

It always hurts to concede a goal in the 88th minute. We need to learn from this, but we did well today. Our team didn't deserve to lose today.

Ernst Tanner (Manager 1899 Hoffenheim)

It was certainly a game where we needed to fight. We were much better after the break, and of course we are delighted to have finally got the goal to secure the win.

Sejad Salihovic (1899 Hoffenheim)

We simply tried to improve our play in the second half, as we know we were below par in the first 45 minutes. We controlled the game in the second period and earned our victory. It is a difficult place to come and win, and luckily for us we did just that.

Andreas Beck (Captain 1899 Hoffenheim)

The atmosphere here makes it a difficult ground to visit. Following a few tactical changes at half time we came out better in the second half. In 14 days we have our next opponents, but at the moment we're just delighted with our start to the season.
