Season Review 4: between the starting eleven and the bench

Christian Eichner had imagined his change from Karlsruher SC to Hoffenheim would have been easy. “I had to get used to the way of playing here. In Karlruhe it was completely different”, said Eichner at the start of the season.

Part 4

Eichner's difficulties at the start though quickly vanished into thin air. The 27-year-old fought off strong competition to secure a regular place in the team, making 24 starting appearances. But what is even more important is that he has become a leading player in Hoffenheim's team in a very short space of time. He proved his ability to still play well, even when his club was in the middle of some rather turbulent times off the pitch in the middle of the season. He was the one who talked to the fans when 1899 were finding the going tough in their home games.

However, Eichner wants to be more than just a crisis manager- he wants to play even more. "All in all, I can be very happy with the way the season has gone. But I have promised myself to aim to try and play in every single game next season", said Eichner- an aim which he is certainly capable of.
