Obasi follows Vorsah to the quarter-finals

Nigeria have become the sixth team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations. Despite a goalless first half Odemwingie netted twice in quick succession shortly before and after the restart to help secure a 3-0 victory for the 'Super Eagles'.

Chinedu Obasi almost helped the Nigerians take the lead on 24 minutes after a header from Obi Mikel's freekick, but the Hoffenheim star's effort fell just wide. Mozambique responded by being compact in defence and attempting to counter where possible; and the tactics seemed to be working. That was until Nigeria took the psychological advantage when Odemwingie found the back of the net moments before the half time whistle. Two minutes after the restart and the striker had doubled his tally. Four minutes before the end Obafemi Martins scored to make it 3-0 and put the game beyond their opponents. On 25th January at 20:30 Nigeria will face the winners of Group D, which will be decided later today.
