Next opponents: Fighting for survival

1. FC Nürnberg gained promotion to the Bundesliga last season via the playoffs. The Bavarians required just one season to return to the top flight having previously been relegated at the end of the 2007/08 season.

Nonetheless, the Franconians have struggled to keep a healthy distance from the bottom three this term and are staring down the barrel of another season of disappointment. Just a single point currently separates Nürnberg from the relegation zone, with Dieter Hecking's charges currently in 15th spot thanks to a 3-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen two weeks ago - a feat no other Bundesliga club has managed to achieve this season. Another victory last week, a crucial 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Hertha BSC, saw the Bavarians take another step in the right direction.

New home for 'Der Club'

In order to make their preparation for matches as smooth as possible, FCN will soon be moving into a 1,600m² training facility which includes a youth academy, club museum, first team quarters and offices. The club came up with an ingenious way of funding the development, allowing fans to invest in a savings scheme with all participants honoured by having their name embossed on a giant plaque in the club foyer. However, 'Der Club' must now turn their attentions to the pitch, where 1899 Hoffenheim will be arriving on Saturday afternoon hungry for all three points.
