Next opponents: Champions League in sight

The last time Borussia Dortmund qualified for the Champions League was when they won the title in the 2001/02 season. Eight years later and the Yellow-Blacks are on the verge of returning to Europe's top table.

Still, Dortmund fans are reluctant to count their chickens just yet and the goal remains Europa League qualification, although BVB coach Jürgen Klopp hinted before his side's 1-0 defeat in Mainz that the club have the Champions League in sight: "We still have five chances to do something special this season." Indeed, third place, which would secure qualification for Europe's premier club competition, is just two points away, while there can be no doubting that Dortmund's stadium, the Signal Iduna Park, would provide the perfect backdrop for those glamorous European nights with a capacity of over 80,000.

Dortmund celebrated their centenary at the end of last year and they have crowned the season with consistently improving performances and a steady rise up the table. After finishing sixth last term, Dortmund assured fans that further success was on the horizon and they look set to deliver as Klopp and his charges aim to crown their successful season so far with a top three finish.

This Sunday (18.04.2010 - 15:30 CET), BVB travel to 1899 Hoffenheim looking for another three points and will be full of confidence having won the reverse fixture at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena 2-1 thanks to goals from Jakub Blaszczykowski and Nuri Sahin. The clubs share a fairly balanced history, with Hoffenheim winning the home fixture last season 4-1, while the sides shared the spoils with a 0-0 draw in Dortmund. Borussia have amassed an impressive 32 points from their 15 home games this term, a record 1899 will be keen to put a stop to this Sunday.
