Josip Simunic banned for one match

Josip Simunic has received a one match ban from the German Football Association (DFB) following his red card against FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday.

In what turned out to be a thrilling match against the current league leaders, Hoffenheim picked up 5 yellow cards as they introduced a physical edge to their style of play. However, trainer Ralf Rangnick had to watch on as Josip Simunic received a straight red card for a foul on Lewis Holtby in the 72nd minute. The pull on the midfielders shirt resulted in a penalty for Mainz, as Simunic was the last man, which ultimately led to their 4th and final goal of the game. It is the 6th time the Croatian has been sent off in the Bundesliga and will see him miss the home match against Borussia Mönchengladbach on 17th October.
