Jaissle admits he's a bookworm

The powerful defender has made a real impact in the Bundesliga this term, but Matthias Jaissle has interests away from the field too: He confessed to being a keen bookworm at the Dietmar Hopp Foundation's 'Kick and Read' campaign.

"I don't just read Bild, the cliché paper for every footballer," said Jaissle. "I always read books before I go to bed, usually ones about people pulling through in difficult situations." The children had a host of questions for the 22-year-old and managed to extract a heap of personal information for the 1899 defender. Judging by the questions posed, the world of football is one which even the youngest of today are deeply involved in: "Have you been satisfied with the way the team has been playing?" asked one young lad from Mannheim. Hardly the type of question Jaissle had been expecting, but still he delivered a fitting answer: "No! But I'm convinced that things will improve soon." When all the questions had been answered, Jaissle posed for photos and signed autographs for the school children, and a good afternoon was had by all at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
