Hoffenheim beat Offenbach in friendly

1899 Hoffenheim celebrated a relatively straightforward 2-1 friendly victory over third division side Offenbach Kickers on Tuesday evening.

1899 attacked from the off and put the Kickers under pressure with an aggressive pressing strategy. Excellent link up play between Beck, Zuculini and Vukcevic down the right flank threatened the visitors on more than one occasion early on. Still, it was a Bosnian combination that brought about the opening goal in the 13th minute when Salihovic found Ibisevic in the box, who in turn poked the ball over the line. Vukcevic and Ibisevic had further opportunities to extend the lead but were unable to find the target again in the opening period.

After the break, coach Ralf Rangnick changed his team around completely, sending on several players from the U-23 and U-19 squads. The youngsters had an immediate impact, with U-19 star Jonas Hofmann doubling the hosts leads within three minutes of the restart. As the second half wore on, Hoffenheim continued to press in search of further goals, but found it tough going against an improved Offenbach defence. Albayrak notched a consolation for the visitors towards the end after misunderstanding between Eichner and Grahl.

Quotes

Ralf Rangnick
I was more pleased with the second half than the first. There was plenty of energy, fight and passion on display. We've got some exciting young players coming through the ranks.
Marco Terrazzino - I think we can be satisfied with the performance. The goal we conceded at the end was a bit unnecessary.

Andreas Möller
We can only learn from matches like these. Hoffenheim have some fantastic players. When you look through their squad, you have to see them as an enrichment to the Bundesliga.
