At the beginning of 2018, 18-year-old David Otto signed his first professional contract with TSG. The youngster had already trained regularly with the first team at the end of the Hinrunde and celebrated his professional debut against Ludogorets in the Europa League. The centre forward moved to Hoffenheim as an under-14 player and undertook his A-Levels while cutting his teeth in the TSG academy. As both his parents were teachers, Otto’s ‘Plan B’ after football was to go into teaching. The start to his career has been anything but typical, as he says himself: “For a long time I was not part of the top players in my age group, but I have continued to develop here at TSG. Youth players here are brought through the system perfectly.” After signing his first professional contract, it would appear this story is still far from its end.
