A total of 2,220 1899 Hoffenheim fans registered their opinions during the weeklong Facebook vote that determined this years fan favourite. For a long time there was a head-to-head race developing between Tom Starke and Gylfi Sigurdsson for the Player of the Season 2010/11 award. However, it was the Icelandic sensation who piped it by 269 votes in the end to claim the accolade.

He came, he saw, he scored. Following his transfer from Reading in the English Coca-Cola Championship, Gylfi Sigurdsson had a few difficulties to negotiate when he first arrived. Getting used to Ralf Rangnick's system and preferred work ethic, especially without the ball, initially limited the Icelandic international to playing the "Joker" role off the bench, much like a 12th man. However, he was an instant hit with the 1899 fans who immediately took to his open and often highlight filled, style off play.

His step into the limelight was only helped when Marco Pezzaiuoli became head coach as Sigurdsson became an increasingly integral part of the 1899 midfield. With 9 goals and 3 assists to his name at the end of his first season with the Sinsheim side it's not just from corners and free kicks that Gylfi has proven deadly. His set pieces are well renowned in Germany's top flight and understandably so given that, whether around or over the wall, the Icelandic sensation has had some incredible strikes to celebrate. He's one to watch next season if he can find a place in Holger Stanislawski's plans, but right now everything is pointing towards a bright 2011/12 season for Gylfi Sigurdsson - 1899 Hoffenheim's Player of the Season 2010/11.

The Top Five:
1. Gylfi Sigurdsson 987

2. Tom Starke 718
3. Sejad Salihovic 97
4. Vedad Ibisevic 93

5. Sebastian Rudy 86
