Dortmund match reaction

Julian Nagelsmann: I got the team together and gave them a pep talk. It wasn’t so easy after this game. We need to build on our first half performance as we were the more dangerous side. We could’ve made it 2-0. I can’t blame the team because before half time, they carried out the plan perfectly. The red card was perhaps deserved, but it was still a harsh decision. We wouldn’t have lost 3-1 if we’d had eleven men on the pitch. Dortmund didn’t really have any good chances in the first half – that was good.

Thomas Tuchel: We found space on the wings well from the beginning but it wasn’t enough to get us in front. Hoffenheim pressed us well and chased the ball, making it difficult for us. We pressurised towards the end of the half but still no goals. Physically and mentality we put more into the second 45. Hoffenheim were good but I am happy that we did get the goal in the end. It was a special atmosphere. We are very happy with the result, even if they are 17th in the table.

Kevin Volland: After the red card it was very difficult. We lost confidence. The first half was okay but we passed up chances. I could’ve also made it 2-0. Dortmund deserved it in the end. The red was a harsh decision, but we played very well up until then.

Oliver Baumann: The red card decided the game. I think it meant that we weren’t able to counter anymore. We allowed them very little and executed our gameplan well. It was difficult with ten men, Dortmund put extreme pressure on us. It‘s a big disappointment.

Sebastian Rudy: It’s a shame for the whole team. We fought well even with ten men. It could’ve been 2-0 at half time. I caught Aubameyang late for the red card. I think a yellow would’ve been okay but I have to accept the decision. It didn’t help anyone.

Michael Zorc: We created many chances but could only take them towards the end. I only saw the sending off once. In my view it was the correct decision because Rudy came from behind. After we equalised I thought that we would win. Hoffenheim didn’t surprise me. They are a very good team.
