Au revoir, Anthony. Modeste departs TSG

Forward Anthony Modeste has left TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to join fellow Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln. The 27-year-old Frenchman arrived in Kraichgau in July 2013, where he still had one year remaining on his contract, due to expire on 30th June 2016.

“I’m very thankful for those at TSG for bringing me to the Bundesliga. I was able to prove myself in one of the top leagues in the world for two years and am now looking forward to a new challenge,” said the Frenchman, who was under contract with Bordeaux before arriving at Kraichgau.

Modeste enjoyed a brilliant debut at TSG in the 2013/14 campaign and scored 12 goals in 29 Bundesliga appearances, also netting twice in four DFB Cup matches. The forward racked up 26 appearances in the 2014/15 top-flight season, but only one of those was for the full 90 minutes. Modeste scored seven goals in the league last term.

Afriyie Acquah will also depart TSG. The Ghanaian, who came to Hoffenheim in January 2013, was recently loaned out to Italian Serie A club Sampdoria. The 23-year-old midfielder joins Italian top-flight side FC Torino, with whom he will sign a contract until 2019.
